How to use these Hong Kong tips
Each of the four Group 1 races above shows the three horses the TipMeerkat community rates highest, along with the share of tipsters who picked each one. When a local champion is long odds-on, the consensus will usually agree with the market. The more useful signal is how opinion splits behind the favourite, because that is where the second and third picks can carry value for quinellas, trios and each-way bets.
Fields are declared in the week before the meeting, so tips start appearing here a few days out and keep updating until the races are run. You can open the full Sha Tin card to see every tipster's selections for all ten races, then add your own to join the leaderboard.
How to pick a winner at the Hong Kong International Races
- Respect the locals in the Sprint and Mile. Hong Kong's sprinters and milers are among the best in the world, and in recent years the home team has dominated both races.
- Look overseas for the Vase. Hong Kong has very few horses bred to stay 2400 metres, so the Vase is the race where European and Japanese runners have the best record. Arc and Japan Cup form is the place to start.
- Check the draw. Sha Tin's turf course has short runs to the first turn over 1600 and 2000 metres, so a wide draw is a real disadvantage in the Mile and the Cup.
- Mind the travel. Overseas runners arrive after a long trip late in their season. A horse that has been kept fresh for this meeting is often a better bet than one coming off a hard autumn campaign.
- Follow the top jockeys. The best international riders come in for the day, and the bookings in race week often tell you which overseas runners their connections really fancy.

Betting the Hong Kong International Races
Short-priced favourites are common in Hong Kong's feature races, so it pays to think about the bet as well as the pick:
- Quinellas and trios: pairing a strong favourite with two or three of the community's lower-ranked picks gives a better return than backing the favourite to win. Our trifecta guide explains how the costs add up.
- Each-way: in the bigger fields of the Mile and the Sprint, each-way betting on a horse at a price can pay even when the favourite wins.
- Value over certainty: a horse at 1/10 can still lose. See value betting for how to weigh a price against a horse's real chance.
Set a budget before the day and stick to it. Our bankroll management guide covers the basics.
The Hong Kong International Races in brief
